Traded Endowments
Holders of with profit endowment policies commonly have the option to surrender
their policies to their insurer for a lump sum 'surrender value'. However a better
price can often be obtained by selling the policy to another investor via the second-hand
endowment market, known as the Traded Endowment Policy (TEP) market. The market in second-hand
policies has existed since the nineteenth century, but has developed considerably in recent
years. TEPs are now often purchased by specialist TEP Funds, on behalf of individual investors.
